Newcastle given green light to land Johan Manzambi
Newcastle United have been waiting patiently to conclude a move for Switzerland international Johan Manzambi.
The Magpies have a verbal agreement with Freiburg and Johan Manzambi for a summer switch to St James' Park.
According to Sky Sports' Keith Downie, the move will set Newcastle back around £49 million, which he claims is out of the scope of what Ross Wilson was expecting to pay for any one player this summer, which we guess shows just how much Newcastle want him.
The 20-year-old was thought to be waiting until the World Cup was over before finalising a move.
Newcastle fans and indeed the club are nervous that another club could come in and take the deal away from Newcastle like Liverpool did with Victor Munoz, so the Magpies want a swift conclusion.
Switzerland area heading home from the World Cup
Thanks to Argentina, Newcastle may now get that. It took extra time last night, but Switzerland fell to the World Cup holders after the Round of 32's hero Breel Embolo turned villain, getting himself sent off after a ludicrous dive saw him receive a second yellow card.
After that, Switzerland faced an uphill battle, and it was one that was too much for them when it came to extra time.
Switzerland's exit from the competition should now free up Manzambi to make his move to Newcastle.
Keep everything crossed
There's still that fear around that now that he's finished with his international duties, other clubs who hold an interest could now come to the table after Newcastle have shown what it would take to get a deal done.
Victor Munoz had everything agreed to move to Newcastle, a medical was even booked for the Spain winger, and still he went elsewhere, so until it's done, we're all allowed to be a bit nervous and negative.
Still, there does seem to be a good feeling that everything will be fine. Only time will tell, but we should see some movement this week, hopefully.
