Newcastle interested in Fiorentina’s Dodo - Report

Newcastle United continue their hunt for a Kieran Trippier replacement at right-back.

Kieran Trippier ended his time at Newcastle at the end of last season after being the first one through the door under the new ownership.

Also exiting at the same time was fellow right-back Emil Krafth, which leaves Eddie Howe with just Tino Livramento as a natural right-back, especially as Harrison Ashby has once again been sent out on loan.

Last season, Lewis Miley deputised admirably in that position, but with Sandro Tonali gone, Miley is going to be needed in his preferred midfield role.

Newcastle are tracking Dodò

Newcastle therefore need to find a right-back to come in to deputise for Livramento on the right, and according to transfer journalist Nicolò Schira, the Magpies have Brazilian full-back Dodò in their sights.

Schira claims that Nottingham Forest are also looking at the 27-year-old Fiorentina star.

Will Newcastle go for a 27-year-old?

As far as information goes, this one is very sparse. We've got no idea how much Dodò is likely to set us back, although Transfermarkt values him at €16 million (£13.6m), but their valuations rarely reflect reality.

Dodò is in the last year of his contract at Fiorentina and only missed six games for the Serie A side last season in all competitions, so he's certainly reliable, which is what we'd need as backup for Tino.

At 27, we're not sure that Dodò really fits within the new transfer strategy at Newcastle, but if we keep going the way we are, we'll have no experienced players left, so perhaps there is room for one or two signings over the age of 25.

Rumour Rating: 5/10 - We do need a right back, but his age and the lack of detail on the claims make it hard to know just how serious this is.
