Newcastle may revisit bid for Anan Khalaili after failed medical - Report

Newcastle United were linked with Israel right-winger Anan Khalaili last month, but the Union Saint-Gilloise star looked destined for Serie A.

Steve Nickson had identified the 21-year-old as a quality signing, and while there were no reports of a bid, Khalaili's father has since claimed there was contact from the Magpies.

It looked as though Inter Milan had won the race for the right-sided forward, but an issue in the medical put the blockers on the €32 million move after they discovered an irregular heart rhythm.

Due to Italy's stricter medicals when it comes to heart issues, Khalaili can no longer move to Serie A, which opens the door for a Premier League club to come back to the table, as reported by Belgian outlet Het Nieuwsblad.

Anan Khalaili already rejected Newcastle once

Denmark star Christian Eriksen had to leave Inter Milan following his heart attack, which paved the way for his move to Brentford, as the Premier League are more lenient with heart issues.

Before the proposed move to Inter Milan progressed, Anan Khalaili's father told 103 FM that Newcastle, Crystal Palace and Ipswich were keen on acquiring his son's services for €30 million (£25.4 million).

“There were a lot of enquiries from teams. Now I’m revealing this to you because we can talk about it: Newcastle, Crystal Palace, and Ipswich, who put a €30m price tag on him to sign him, and he didn’t want to,” he said.

“The Belgians were a bit persistent with us, saying there was a high price tag. Then suddenly Cagliari, Atalanta, Napoli, and many other teams got involved.”

How strict are Newcastle's medical team?

We're not convinced Newcastle will return to the table for Khalaili, as yet. A right winger isn't a top priority for Ross Wilson as things stand, although the fact he can also operate as a wing back could change things up a bit.

Newcastle appears to be focusing on a goalkeeper, a central midfielder and a full-back first.
