Newcastle United release deadline for Kevin Keegan tributes outside SJP

Everyone connected with Newcastle United continues to mourn the loss of a true icon of the club, Kevin Keegan.

The ex-Newcastle player and manager was universally adored in and around Newcastle United, and that has been shown by just how many tributes have been laid at the South West Corner steps at St James' Park since his passing was announced on Monday.

Newcastle United designated that area of the stadium for fans to leave flowers and other tributes for the great man.

Images on social media continue to show the scale of all of the tributes that have been left already as they start to take over Barrack Road.

For anyone still wanting to add their tribute, the club has released a statement this afternoon putting a clock on the display.

Newcastle have asked fans to leave flowers and gifts before Monday night

The club will start to gather up all of the tributes on Tuesday, meaning if you still want to get to the stadium to leave something, you need to do so before Monday night.

"Club staff will begin carefully gathering floral tributes and items left in Kevin’s memory from Tuesday 28th July, enabling people to visit and leave items until late on Monday.

"Flowers will be processed in a respectful and environmentally responsible way, including being recycled into high quality soil conditioner that will be used on the club’s Academy pitches.

"We know many of you have also left shirts and scarves among the tributes. We're working with our Fan Advisory Board on potential options, and we'll share more on this in due course.

"Finally, we'd kindly ask supporters not to leave alcohol among the tributes to help keep the site safe for everyone.

'The book of condolence will remain open for supporters at the club’s Box Office, which is open 8am – 8pm."

So many tributes have been left already

The sheer number of flowers and gifts is absolutely staggering and just goes to show how highly thought of Kevin Keegan was to Newcastle fans.

Even fans who are too young to remember the days that everyone holds in such high regard will still be aware of Kevin Keegan and his legacy.

The club will pay tribute to the great man on Saturday before kick-off in the pre-season friendly against Gateshead with a one-minute silence.
