Newcastle want Abde Ezzalzouli - Move could help Barcelona offset Anthony Gordon purchase
Anthony Gordon is in Spain putting the finishing touches on his move to Barcelona after Newcastle United accepted their offer on Wednesday.
After a whirlwind 24 hours, Anthony Gordon has gone from looking likely to join Bayern Munich to heading to Spain to sign for Barcelona.
The winger looks destined for the Spanish champions, provided he agrees terms and passes his medical.
That leaves Newcastle needing to find a replacement. The Magpies have been linked with several possibilities, but one could end up benefiting Barcelona.
Abde Ezzalzouli move could benefit Barcelona
The deal taking Gordon to Barca could be worth £70 million if all add-on clauses are met, but should Newcastle opt to sign Real Betis winger Abde Ezzalzouli as his replacement, the Catalan side will end up profiting from that move too.
Barcelona still owns a percentage of Abde's contract, and should he move to Newcastle for a proposed £43 million, SPORT estimates that Barca will pocket £8.6 million as part of that transaction, which will help them offset the large fee they paid for Gordon.
Betis needs to make a sale before the end of June to comply with financial regulations, and Abde is a player who is attracting plenty of interest, with Aston Villa and Tottenham also keen on the winger.
Newcastle could get business done quickly
Newcastle would be wise to move quickly once the Gordon deal goes through. With Betis needing to sell and Newcastle having a gap to fill, it all lines up well.
Ross Wilson and David Hopkinson have proven that they can act quickly in the market as a selling force; now they need to prove they can do the same when it comes to buying.
Abde isn't the only player Newcastle is looking at, and we're not sure where he sits on the list of priorities, but in terms of being a deal that can be done, it sounds like an easy one.
Let's see if the new team can act swiftly to get Eddie Howe his new players in quickly, like he asked.
