Nick Pope in talks over Ipswich move as Newcastle look to cash in - Report
Newcastle United's goalkeeper situation is very much at the forefront of everyone's minds right now with the imminent arrival of Ewen Jaouen.
John Ruddy and Max Thompson are both due to leave the club this month, while Aaron Ramsdale is heading back to Southampton after Newcastle opted to not activate their option to buy.
While nobody is certain what role Ewen Jaouen will play when he arrives, it's being widely speculated that he'll be competition for whoever is given the responsibility of first-choice keeper next season.
Whether that will be Nick Pope, we're not sure, but it's certainly looking less likely as now Ipswich Town have reportedly held talks with Newcastle over a move for the former England keeper.
Ipswich eyeing Pope after promotion
The Shields Gazette is reporting that Newcastle and Ipswich have held talks already, with the Tractor Boys set to return to the top flight next season.
Pope has one year left on his contract at Newcastle, and after being in and out of the team this season, his future is far from certain.
Leeds United are also keen on Nick Pope, who could follow a couple of other Magpies to Elland Road in Karl Darlow and Sean Longstaff.
The right time to sell?
Nick Pope's contract situation makes this the perfect time for Newcastle to cash in. It's our last chance to get a decent payday for the 34-year-old.
As for which of the two clubs Pope would choose, Leeds would make the most sense after they beat relegation last season, but Ipswich is just 30 minutes away from where he was born and raised.
If Pope is sold, then Newcastle will absolutely need to add another goalkeeper. We're already reducing our numbers but we don't feel Ewen Jaouen is going to be Eddie Howe's first-choice right away.
