Nick Pope wanted by Hull City as Newcastle consider loan move - Report

Newcastle United have begun their goalkeeper overhaul already, with three out and one in before the transfer window had even opened.

John Ruddy and Max Thompson left the club when their contracts expired, while Aaron Ramsdale returned to Southampton when his loan deal finished.

France U21 goalkeeper Ewen Jaouen has already been signed, but there's still a requirement to bring in a more 'senior' goalkeeper to take over the No.1 spot from Nick Pope.

James Trafford is being heavily rumoured for that role, despite only being three years Jaouen's senior.

Hull City enter the race for Nick Pope

Firstly, though, Newcastle must decide what to do with Nick Pope. The former England keeper has been linked with an exit this summer, and several clubs are interested.

Leeds United and Ipswich Town have been at the forefront so far, but now iNews reports that Hull City are keen on the former Burnley man following promotion.

Their report also mentions that Newcastle could be open to a loan exit for Pope, which could make the proposition all the more enticing for Premier League newcomers Hull and Ipswich.

What about Ody?

Pope only has a year left on his contract, so a season-long loan could be the last we see of the 34-year-old on Tyneside. We obviously won't recoup any of our £10 million from his purchase, but in all honesty, we've had our money's worth out of him before he turned to poop.

Another goalkeeper Newcastle need to sort out is Odysseas Vlachodimos. The Greek stopper spent last season on loan at Sevilla, and they want to keep him but can't afford to buy him. Another loan has been mooted, but as things stand, nobody knows what's going to happen with him.

Newcastle's goalkeeper situation was an absolute travesty over the past few seasons, so we're glad to see work being done to streamline things. We're keeping our fingers crossed for James Trafford. He and Jaouen would see us set for years, although keeping both happy is going to be a huge battle.
