Savinho in tug-of-war battle between Newcastle and Tottenham - Fabrizio Romano
Newcastle United are still on the hunt for the ideal replacement for Anthony Gordon, who looks to be on his way out of St James' Park.
Whatever you think of the lad, Gordon is going to leave some pretty big shoes to fill down that left flank for Eddie Howe, so Newcastle has to get the recruitment absolutely spot on.
Harvey Barnes will no doubt be making his case that the spot should belong to him, but he's got to prove it in training and on the pitch. With reports that Aston Villa are circling, he may also abandon ship.
Whatever happens, Newcastle needs to bring in at least one left-sided forward, and Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Manchester City's Savinho is the latest player on their list.
Fabrizio Romano claims Newcastle want Savinho
Speaking on his YouTube channel, the Italian journalist spoke about Tottenham Hotspur reigniting their interest in Savinho after a failed attempt to sign the Brazilian last summer.
Romano claims that Tottenham tried twice to sign the winger last year, but it didn't work out as Man City wanted Rodrygo from Real Madrid, but that deal didn't happen, so they were reluctant to let Savinho go.
Now that they've avoided relegation, they are set to try again, but Romano claims that Newcastle are also interested in the 22-year-old, who wants more regular football and is thought to be open to a move away from the Etihad.
Spurs seem to have the lead
The way Fabrizio Romano is talking, it sounds as though Tottenham will be Savinho's most likely destination, as he was keen to join last year, so Newcastle will have to fight hard if they want the Brazilian to come to Tyneside.
Newcastle aren't out of it, of course. Just because Savinho was keen on Tottenham last summer, he may not feel that way this year after seeing how their season unfolded, although Newcastle's season wasn't a great deal better.
Savinho feels like a plausible target for Newcastle, and it looks as though City are ready to sell, and he's ready to move on.
Rumour Rating: 7/10 - He fits the bill, has Premier League experience, wants to move, and his club is willing to sell. Spurs will be the big issue, though.
