WATCH: Johan Manzambi bags brilliant assist at the World Cup as Newcastle talks continue

Newcastle United are reportedly in talks to land Switzerland star Johan Manzambi from SC Freiburg while he lights up the World Cup.

Switzerland were in action against Algeria in the Round of 32 in the early hours of Friday morning, and it was Toon target Johan Manzambi who shone like a diamond in the tie.

The 20-year-old is thought to be one of three signings Newcastle is working on after the sale of Sandro Tonali, and after seeing him in action last night, we really hope that those talks are advanced.

Manzambi already had three goals and an assist to his name coming out of the group stages, and last night he added another assist to his name, but it was so good that they should have given him the credit for the goal too.

Johan Manzambi looks incredible

Manzambi picked up the ball just past halfway and drove towards the byline, pulling his marker every which way before pulling the ball back into the middle for an easy tap-in for Breel Embolo

The pace and power shown by the 20-year-old were exceptional, and the ball just stuck to his feet. That's the type of positive play Newcastle is crying out for.

Manzambi appeared to be at the centre of everything positive Switzerland did during the 71 minutes he played.

Please don't mess this one up

Newcastle are still in talks with Freiburg over a move that could be worth €55m (£47m), according to The Northern Echo.

Manzambi would be viewed as the replacement for Sandro Tonali in the middle of the park, and though he may not have the Italian's experience, he's certainly got all the raw ingredients to be even better, not to mention having time on his side.

We are hoping and praying that Newcastle can get this deal across the line. They say never buy a player based on one tournament, but that saying can get in the sea. Bring this lad to Tyneside!
