WATCH: Kerim Alajbegovic hits World Cup wonder-goal after being linked to Newcastle

It was reported this week that Newcastle United have been offered the chance to sign Bayer Leverkusen winger Kerim Alajbegovic.

Indeed, it was only yesterday that we reported that the Magpies had been offered the 18-year-old as they look to find a replacement for Anthony Gordon after his move to Barcelona.

Leverkusen have only just brought Alajbegovic back to the club after a year at RB Salzburg, but it looks as though they are ready to cash in on the Bosnian youngster.

Alajbegovic is thought to have plenty of admirers in Italy, while Premier League trio Arsenal, Aston Villa and Leeds United have been named as potential suitors.

Kerim Alajbegovic hit an absolute peach against Qatar

The report, which came from The Daily Mail, claimed that Newcastle were unlikely to pursue a move for him, but they may be having second thoughts after seeing his stunning strike last night.

Alajbegovic actually set a World Cup record with his thunder strike as he became the youngest player to score from outside of the box at a World Cup since records began, taking that crown from Kylian Mbappe.

Picking the ball up just left of centre, Alajbegovic ghosted through the Qatari press, moving over to the right-hand side of the area. It looked as though he'd taken it too wide, but the teenager unleashed a shot like a rocket into the top right corner of the net. It came after the commentary team had been labelling him as one to watch.

Maybe time to rethink that rejection?

Obviously, it's just one goal in one game, and to make a career decision based on that would be crazy, but it was a good example of the talent that the lad possesses.

He probably added a few digits to his asking price with that one. We're not sure whether it will move the needle for Newcastle, but it has for us.

Like we said, it may just be a one-off from the kid, so we trust our scouts and the data, but based on what we saw yesterday, we certainly wouldn't be opposed to him coming to Newcastle.

At 18 with such raw talent and the versatility to play right across the front three, he's got to be worth a look. Arsenal and Aston Villa think so.
