Wolves fans react to Sean Neave's impressive display at Everton

Sean Neave made his first start for Wolves last night, catching the eye in a narrow 1-0 defeat to Everton in the Carabao Cup.

The 19-year-old was handed his first start since joining Wolves on a season-long loan earlier this month, and played the full 90 minutes from the right.

And while Wolves ultimately exited the competition against our fourth round opponents, Neave can take plenty of positives from his first senior start for the club.

It was a difficult night for Wolves in terms of creating clear-cut opportunities, but Neave showed why Newcastle were keen for him to gain regular senior football this season.

Looking at Wolves fans on X, they seemed impressed by the Geordie forward, praising his ability to link the play, his directness and ability to use his body to protect the ball.

There are even calls for him to start the Black Country derby against West Brom on Sunday, with Raul Jimenez going off injure last night.

'I think I’d give Sean Neave a start Sunday. He’s got pace, can drop deep, beat a player or two and can make runs in behind.'

'Fair play to whoever in the recruitment team suggested signing Sean Neave, so impressive tonight.' 

"Neave looking our best forward here, hoping we have some sort of option in the deal linked to promotion that is just not public knowledge, looks a real player."

His biggest contribution came shortly after half-time when he showed good strength and determination to shrug off Everton defender Vitalii Mykolenko before slipping Adam Armstrong through on goal.

Armstrong’s effort was saved by Jordan Pickford, but the move highlighted Neave’s ability to compete physically and bring others into the game.

More starts on the horizon? 

Based on comments from Wolves' technical director, Matt Jackson, upon his arrival and the reaction from fans to his first start, the teenage forward can expect plenty of game time in the coming weeks.

It's also a great sign to see him play well, both technically and physically, against Premier League opposition, highlighting his potential.

That will be particularly encouraging for Neave, who has moved away from Newcastle for the first time in his career in search of regular senior football.
