Watch Steve Parish interview on Marc Guehi - This is what he ACTUALLY said...
Sky Sports have now released footage of their interview with Crystal Palace chief Steve Parish, who was bullish but equally open to the idea of Marc Guehi leaving if you watch the clip itself.
After insisting that they are yet to receive an acceptable offer, would love to keep him and have not received indications that he'll force a move to Newcastle, he adds "if the right opportunity is there and it’s right for us I think it’s something he might be interested in" and "everyone's wishes have to be taken into account." So, while it suggests that our latest bid - a reported £55m plus £5m in add-ons - will not be accepted, this is by no means a 'he's going nowhere' message from Parish. If the price is right, it's seems pretty clear he'll sign.
The question now is, will we up our offer and come closer to Palace's lofty demands or are we going to pursue other options and walk away? Here's Parish's quotes in full:
“Nobody has got to the valuation yet. If you want a superstar player you need to pay superstar money. This is a player we love a lot - if the start the season with him, we'll be a better team. No doubt. Everyone's wishes have to be taken into account, but we are nowhere near the point where we have to make a decision."He's home grown, he's 23 years old (he is 24), he was in most people's team of the Euros. He's an excellent lad. We'd love to keep him at the club. If someone else wants to have him they need to make it really difficult for us.
"Marc Guehi is one of the most decent human beings and footballers you'd ever meet. We all know the situation and don't need to have discussions about it. Marc is absolutely loyal to Crystal Palace.
"Marc wants to progress his career - of course he does - and if the right opportunity is there and it’s right for us I think it’s something he might be interested in, but he’s certainly not putting any pressure on the club whatsoever."
