Will Osula contacted over international switch - Report
Will Osula has seemingly established himself as the first-choice striker for Newcastle United of late after scoring in each of the Magpies' last two games.
Fans have been calling for Nick Woltemade to be reinstated to the centre-forward position, and in press conferences, Eddie Howe has been asked why his £69m signing is sitting on the bench while Will Osula is on the pitch.
Howe gave a blunt response that he doesn't pick his team based on price tags, and Will Osula is scoring goals. It's a fair point.
There's still a rawness to Osula's game, but if he's putting the ball in the net, we can't really argue too much.
That rawness may be why the 22-year-old is yet to make his senior debut for Denmark after bagging eight goals in 15 games for the Under-21s.
Nigeria looking to poach Will Osula
Osula has been selected for the senior squad but has yet to make his debut, which hasn't gone unnoticed by the Nigerian Football Federation, according to a report from Danish outlet, Tipsbladet.
They claim that Osula has been contacted by Nigeria to switch allegiances and represent the Super Eagles, as he is eligible to do due to his Nigerian father.
Neither Denmark nor Nigeria qualified for the World Cup this year, so that won't tip the scales in either direction for Osula who must now make a decision on his international future.
Osula’s club future is also uncertain
It's not just his international future that is in doubt. Will Osula almost left Newcastle in each of the last two transfer windows, with Eintracht Frankfurt very keen on the pacey forward.
Newcastle pulled out of the deal in the summer, and Osula was injured in January, which scuppered any potential move.
Now that he's Eddie Howe's go-to striker, it remains to be seen whether he's done enough to earn himself another season at the club, or if Newcastle will use his recent form to up his price and finally move him on.
We love Osula, but there is a lot of evidence to suggest he may not be good enough for where we want to be. He has the raw talent, but we're not sure he has the application.
