'I'll be back': Kieran Trippier has eyes on a return to Newcastle United
Kieran Trippier announced earlier this month that he is to leave Newcastle United at the end of the season.
After four years at the club, Kieran Trippier will call time on his Newcastle career after blazing the trail for big names to follow after the 2021 takeover.
Seen by many as the most important signing of the PIF-era, the man who started it all by taking a pay cut to come from Atletico Madrid to play for 19th-place Newcastle United with no relegation clause in his contract.
It was a bold move and one that raised a lot of eyebrows at the time, but it's one that worked. Not only did Trippier help to keep the Magpies in the Premier League that season, but he went on to guide them to two Champions League competitions and a Carabao Cup trophy.
Kieran Trippier has been a legend at Newcastle
Trippier has been a true leader for Newcastle, and the Bury-born defender has spoken to Keith Downie for Sky Sports about his love for the club and the area, and has even vowed to be back, be it as a fan or something else.
"My daughter was born here, and this is the longest I've ever been at a football club. This is where I've felt most at home, at Newcastle, and I'm not just saying that.
"I'm going to miss all the lads, I'm going to miss everybody associated with Newcastle, but I'll be back if that's coaching, managing, who knows, in about five or six years.
"I'd love to come back. And I will come back as a fan. Who knows what it holds in the future? It's a mystery, isn't it? I've still got a good few years in me, and then I'll go down the coaching route. Who knows, I could be in the dugout there one day."
We'd love to see Trippier back at the Toon
We've always said we'd love Trippier to go into coaching at Newcastle. We thought that would be his next move, to be honest, but he obviously feels like he's still got plenty to give on the pitch before hanging up his boots.
Hopefully, this isn't the end of Kieran Trippier's story at Newcastle. We'd welcome him back in the dugout without hesitation. He's been one of the best leaders we've had at the club in a long time.
It's going to be interesting to see where he ends up next season, first. We've still got our money on Inter Miami. He just looks like he'd enjoy himself out there.
