Nick Woltemade hint arrives from Eddie Howe after Arsenal cameo
Newcastle United will feel they could have got more out of the game against Arsenal on Saturday.
The hosts took an early lead via an Ebereche Eze wonder strike, albeit one that Newcastle should have snuffed out, given that it was the third time the Gunners had tried that exact same corner routine.
Other than that, though, the Premier League leaders barely laid a glove on the Magpies, who were left to regret missed chances in both halves in a 1-0 defeat.
Howe hails Woltemade cameo
Will Osula could have broken the deadlock in the first minute, but the Dane's standing leg knocked the ball away from him in what turned out to be an air shot instead.
Meanwhile, Nick Woltemade came off the bench to create a sublime chance for fellow substitute Yoane Wissa, who blazed over the bar.
But as well as that clever dink over the top for Wissa, Woltemade looked like someone determined to make a point, and judging by what Eddie Howe said after the game, he may well have done that.
"Yoane (Wissa) and Nick (Woltemade) both performed well when they came on.
"Nick's creativity for Yoane's chance, that's what he can do. He's a very special talent in that respect.
"If Nick plays like he did today, he’ll get loads more minutes and opportunities to impress. I was very pleased with him"
The Woltemade calls will only get louder now
Fans have been crying out for the return of Woltemade to the starting lineup, and given how many changes Eddie Howe made today, we were actually surprised he wasn't given a chance. I suppose two goals in his last two games kept Osula in the team.
Even though Big Nick was deployed in midfield again today, he looked dangerous at times without ever actually threatening the goal.
Although, to be fair, that was Newcastle's entire identity. Threatening without ever truly being dangerous.
