Sky Sports: Newcastle turn to striker deal with £55m signing and £12m sale close

Newcastle's summer transfer window looks to have finally kicked into gear.

After a frustrating June saw us miss out on a number of early deals, last night brought news that Anthony Elanga is on his way to St James' Park, with a deal in the region of £52-£55m struck with Nottingham Forest.

Sky Sports also report that Sean Longstaff is now 'close' to joining Leeds in a deal worth £12m, meaning it could be one in, one out on Tyneside over the next 24-48 hours with Elanga en-route to complete a medical.

What's next? Well, according to a Tuesday morning update from Keith Downie, Newcastle are now set to turn their focus towards the signing of another striker.

Sky's North East correspondent reports that, having just missed out on Joao Pedro to Chelsea, Newcastle want a striker able to compliment and compete with Alexander Isak.

This position is now set to be prioritised once Elanga's arrival is made official, with Callum Wilson's departure yesterday increasing the need for attacking reinforcements.

The big question is, who do we target? Do we pursue another versatile forward in the mould of Pedro or previous target Matheus Cunha; two options who could've played up top, in a deeper role or out wide.

Or will we see the club pivot back to more of and out and out number nine. Liam Delap was a player in this mold and was targeted before he too opted for Chelsea, while links to free agent Dominic Calvert-Lewin have continued this week.
