Newcastle reject £55m plan to sign Bruno Guimaraes after Arsenal approach - Report

Bruno Guimaraes' Newcastle United future briefly came into question on Thursday evening after reports his representatives had been talking with Arsenal.

Rumours that Arsenal had held talks with Bruno Guimaraes' people over a potential summer move sprung up on Thursday night, but almost as quickly as they appeared, they were swatted down.

Both Luke Edwards and Mark Douglas reported that they weren't panicking over Bruno's future, with Douglas even going as far as to say there was no contact from Arsenal with the club.

It's pretty clear at this point that Newcastle has absolutely no intention of selling Bruno Guimaraes.

Newcastle will not entertain any offers for Bruno Guimaraes

Craig Hope confirmed on YouTube last night that Newcastle insist that they will not entertain any offers for their captain this summer.

Meanwhile, Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Arsenal’s plan to offer of £55 million following a formal approach was rejected by Newcastle.

"Arsenal made formal approach in last 24h for Bruno Guimarães.

"Plan to try open talks for £55m was immediately rejected by Newcastle. #NUFC want to keep Bruno and told Arsenal they won’t sell for that fee."

Is this Bruno's agents boxing clever?

Ignoring for a moment how Fabrizio Romano has tried desperately to keep the hope alive for Arsenal with his "for that fee" addendum, it's hard to know whether an approach was actually made.

There's clearly some truth in here somewhere, as so many sources have picked up on it, but our gut feeling is that this is all a ploy from Bruno's agents to get Newcastle to come to the table with a new contract.

Bruno has two years remaining on his deal, and while he's at the top of the pile in terms of salary, there really isn't a price you can put on how valuable he is to the club. And if you could, it would sure has heckfire be more than £55 million!
