Newcastle set to launch major move for Wolves' Matheus Cunha - but there's a catch
The transfer window doesn't open for another two months, but talk of potential targets is starting to ramp up.
Investment is needed in several areas and our PSR situation is much improved as we look to bring in a goalkeeper, centre-back, winger and forward.
Another Brazilian appears to be on our radar, with a new report on Thursday tea time sharing all the details.
Newcastle want Cunha
It looks like Newcastle United have their sights set on Wolves star Matheus Cunha.
According to Craig Hope's latest exclusive for The Mail, Newcastle have identified the Brazilian as a 'top target' heading into the summer window.
He reports that coaching staff on Tyneside are huge admirers of the 25-year-old, with Eddie Howe also attracted by his versatility, believing he could play out wide, up front or as a No.8 as part of our three-man midfield.
The former Atletico Madrid star has 15 goals and four assists so far this season and it's thought he has the character and quality to thrive at St James' Park - but a move is not straightforward for a few reasons.
Cunha move tricky - despite £62.5m clause
Despite having a £62.5m release clause in his Wolves contract, Hope reports that securing Champions League football look set to be key.
Not only would that help sell a move to Newcastle for the player himself, it would also unlock the finances required to pull off what could be our second most expensive signing, especially with several other areas of the squad in need of investment.
There is also 'strong competition', meaning the chance to play in Europe's elite competition will be a massive factor for the player.
One factor working in our favour, however, is that Cunha could join South American compatriots Bruno Guimaraes and Joelinton on Tyneside, where they've loved life both on and off the pitch.
