Sky Germany release Sesko update - Newcastle latest and RB Leipzig’s price tag
With just over three weeks until the start of their season against Aston Villa, Newcastle United aren’t even close to finishing their business for the summer.
And there’s a very real chance we head into August 15th without a dedicated starting striker.
Whether he was always on the radar, or it’s a knee jerk reaction to a certain other striker’s potential departure, the club now finds itself firmly in the race for Benjamin Sesko to become that dedicated striker.
But in an update from Sky Germany, it may not be long before we start seeing this deal truly progress…
The latest update on Sesko to Newcastle revealed
According to Florian Plettenberg, we are actively discussing terms with Sesko’s entourage, to which his current club have been informed.
Earlier, it had been reported that the Bundesliga had yet to receive any sort of bid or offer for the striker.
But similar to the ongoing Yoane Wissa discussions, it seems we’re wanting to guarantee the player’s interest in joining us before we initiate a conversation with his club.
Plettenberg adds Sesko has been on our radar since 2022, and the striker’s stock has only risen since then.
RB Leipzig are said to be demanding between €80-100m for their top star, though the club’s lack of European football could see have an advantage in negotiations.
Is Sesko Newcastle’s for the taking?
As much as we have been forced into our current striker situation, we do hold a slight advantage in any sort of negotiations for the star.
Not only can we offer the Slovenian Champions League football next season, but he himself has very little current options on the table.
All the Premier League’s elite options are covered for strikers: Man City have Haaland, Liverpool now have Ekitike (though this hasn’t stopped them pursuing Isak), Arsenal are set to sign Gyökeres, and Chelsea have more attackers than they know what to do with.
You have to imagine for a young ambitious striker like Sesko, the opportunity of playing as a no.9 for a side in the Champions League is one you simply can’t pass at this stage in your career.
