Newcastle talent set for London loan move after missing Asia trip - Report

Trying to break into the current Newcastle United midfield is one of the least enviable situations a player can be in right now.

Even if you disregard the main trio of Bruno Guimaraes, Sandro Tonali and Joelinton, Eddie Howe can also call upon squad stalwarts like Joe Willock and Lewis Miley to fill his midfield three.

Competition for minutes is so fierce that Sean Longstaff was sold this summer partially stemming from a desire to get as many first team opportunities as possible as Leeds United.

So it’s perhaps no surprise that one of our young midfielders is set to depart on loan this summer to gain senior minutes elsewhere…

Midfielder set for Leyton Orient

According to journalist Pete O’Rourke, Joe White is set to join Leyton Orient on loan this summer.

It’s understood that there was a race to secure the 22-year-old’s signature, but The O’s look to have won it.

White was on loan at MK Dons last season, where he managed to score six goals from 34 league appearances as they narrowly survived relegation out of the football league.

White was a notable absentee from the squad that travelled to Asia for pre-season, despite signing a contract extension with us back in August 2024 and featuring against Celtic.

Aside from four appearances during the injury-laden 23/24 campaign, White has struggled to win opportunities as part of Eddie Howe’s senior squad, so this feels like a good move for the sake of his career.

What other loans could be on the cards?

Even with 60+ games expected for the squad this season, Howe tends to rely on a smaller squad of players he trusts and knows can perform on the big stage to play as much as possible.

So unfortunately, minutes aren’t guaranteed for everyone.

Odysseas Vlachodimos, who hasn’t played a minute of pre-season despite Martin Dubravka not travelling to Asia, is likely to leave on loan. Villarreal was touted as a potential destination last week.

Howe rates each of Alfie Harrison, Trevan Sanusi and Travis Hernes highly, so rather than potentially hinder their development playing solely in the youth set up this season, could loan spells in the football league be the right move for the three promising youngsters?
