Pathetic from Michael Owen on Alexander Isak - Shock horror!

Weasel-in-Chief, Michael Owen, has had his say on the Alexander Isak situation, and it’s to no one’s great surprise that a man who once refused to play for Newcastle to protect his transfer value has backed the wantaway Swede.

On a clip doing the rounds on social media, Owen said:

“What I don’t agree with is all these ex-players coming out sticking up for the club […] and all having a go at Isak, they all would’ve done exactly the same, all of them.”

I think Owen doth protest too much. He would’ve behaved the same way as Isak is because he did. The spineless coward, our record signing at the time, don’t forget, refused to play when United were mired in an ultimately hopeless relegation battle.

Despite being the club’s highest earner by a long shot, Owen downed tools and refused to pull on a Black and White shirt when Alan Shearer was manager at the end of 2008/09, which was even more galling as we only needed a point to stay up via goal difference in the end.

Owen continued:

“He [Isak] is not a bad person and most of the time it’s the football club that actually threatens the player…”

"I've seen it myself, I've been there. I can't stand it."

"He's not a bad lad. He didn't come into this situation saying "right, I'm not going to train again." I'm pretty sure he would've gone about it the right way to start with. But the more and more you are prevented, the more and more desperation hints."

"The only way is to make some noises and 'do whatever'."

Whilst Isak very likely isn’t a ‘bad person’, his behaviour has been petulant and unnecessary. Most sensible football fans feel Isak has acted poorly this summer, and there have been multiple examples (Eze & Guehi) of players approaching things the right way.

Besides Michael, if Liverpool really wanted Isak, why did they drop £90m on Ekitike? If we’d signed him to replace him, I’m sure Isak would be wearing Red already. Be careful with that last bit too, Michael, it’s nearly libellous…

Owen droned on:

“He [Isak] would’ve said to Eddie Howe last season if an opportunity arose, I’d like to go to a team like Liverpool…”

Is that so, Michael? Were you in the room when the conversation happened? More hearsay. And aren’t Liverpool the club you left because they were consistently finishing 25-30 points behind the Premier League winners and were struggling to win a title you all so craved?

Owen then added:

It’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and I’m pretty sure he would’ve gone about it the right way initially…”

If it’s so much of a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, Michael, why don’t you let Liverpool know the price is £150m and if they pay it, they’ll probably get Isak? And there is no initially in this situation anymore; we’re long past that.

Isak is actively impacting our season already (we should have two points more than we do), yet we’re supposed to just roll over and let them take our main striker at a reduced price because he’s refusing to play, disrespecting the manager and his teammates, trying to embarrass the club, and the team that want him want to pay well below his market value. It’s nonsense.

I think that’s all the effort and energy I can devote to Michael Owen. He doesn’t hide his partisan views, yet he’s employed to be an impartial pundit, and if Google wasn’t such a stickler for it, I’d have plenty of four-letter words to call the charlatan. Instead, I’ll just say this: you’re the worst signing in Newcastle United’s history, and it ain’t even close.
