Newcastle set to launch £60m bid with domino effects in play over two striker deals

What happens between now and Monday's 7pm deadline is anyone's guess as of 5pm on Wednesday afternoon, but Newcastle are clearly pushing to sign at least one striker.

Although talks are continuing with Yoane Wissa and that deal remains 'active', as of last night, the club is clearly serious about signing Wolves' Jorgen Strand Larsen after a series of major bids this week.

After a £50m bid on Monday and £55m bid on Tuesday were both knocked back, Sky Sports' Keith Downie is now reporting that a third offer worth £60m is imminent.

Craig Hope believes that this still won't be enough, for now, but something is clearly giving Newcastle encouragement to keep bidding, with a potential domino effect in play over moves for both Larsen and Wissa.

At Wolves, they are pushing to bring in £17m Getafe forward Christantus Uche and preparing a bid for Gent goal-machine Tolu Arokodare, according to Belgian outlet HLN.

As a towering 25-year-old - the same age as Larsen - who bagged 23 goals last season, it makes you wonder if progress on that deal could soften their Larsen stance? Some claim Arokodare would NOT be the Larsen replacement, but it feels like something could be brewing as Newcastle continue to bid while Wolves work on deals for two striker signings.

Then to Wissa. A move for the Brentford striker has gone quiet, in the media at least, since our £40m bid failed last week, but Craig Hope insists that we were in talks with the Bees on Tuesday in hope of reaching a compromise.

But, once again, the dominos may need to fall in West London first, as Brentford are thought to be pursuing a deal for Borussia Dortmund forward Max Beier as a potential replacement.

With Wolves' Fabio Silva now closing in on a move to Dortmund, that could free up Beier's potential switch to Brentford and in turn help us land Wissa in the final days of a draining summer, with the 28-year-old still holding out for a move after sitting out their cup win at Bournemouth last night.

The final question is, will it be Larsen, Wissa or both? Neither remains a possibility based on the selling clubs' current stance without suitable replacements, but it will be interesting to see how this impacts the Alexander Isak saga if we are handed the opportunity to sign the pair.

Both scored a combined 33 goals in the Premier League last season, with Larsen off the mark last night for 2025/26 with two goals in Wolves' 3-2 win over West Ham in the Carabao Cup.
