Newcastle plan to sign second striker + £65m Woltemade with Larsen deal off - Report

Whilst Newcastle United fans everywhere were glued to their screens to see who they will play in this season’s Champions League, few could have expected the transfer bombshell about to land.

NUFCBlog had suggested Stuttgart’s Nick Woltemade as a potential option earlier this month, not that there had been any strong links to the 6ft 6" striker.

But the news from Craig Hope revealed that the 23-year-old is now set to sign, with others now confirming that a £65m deal is imminent - and we are still in the market for one more striker.

Wissa on, Larsen off?

According to Sky Sport’s Keith Downie, Yoane Wissa is still high on Newcastle United's radar heading into the final days of the summer window.

And the current plans looks to be to play the Congolese forward alongside the incoming Woltemade: an exciting big man, little man partnership at Eddie Howe’s disposal.

The signing of Woltemade also looks to have put an end to our pursuit of Jørgen Strand Larsen, with Downie citing the players’ similar profiles as to why we’re not signing the pair of them.

With how fast and suddenly we have announced this transfer, could the 23-year-old potentially be registered in time for the Leeds United game? He’ll have to be confirmed by midday on Friday if so.

…But what does this mean for Alexander Isak?

Signing Woltemade as well as Wissa would fulfill the owner’s ideals of having two new forwards brought in to facilitate any Alexander Isak sale.

And Downie also reveals that a fresh Liverpool bid is imminent. Writing on X, he commented

“Liverpool are now expected to come in with a Premier League record second offer for Alexander Isak, and the striker will get his wish…”

So this all but confirms that a bid exceeding the £115m the Reds already paid for Florian Wirtz is coming soon, but we’re none the wiser as to whether or not it will meet our £150m valuation.

Brentford could still play spoiler in all this: manager Keith Andrews has hinted that there’s little movement going on in West London in regards to them selling Wissa.

Quite simply, if they don’t sell Wissa to us, Isak could have to start getting comfortable on our bench for the next few months…
