Newcastle suffer double injury blow - Bad news from Eddie Howe on Friday morning

The international break is over, and with that comes the return of Premier League football.

As ever, Eddie Howe has spent his Friday morning sat down in front of the media, taking questions ahead of tomorrow's 3pm clash between Newcastle and Wolves at St James' Park.

Sadly, the boss has revealed some bad news on the injury front, as it looks like Yoane Wissa (knee) and Jacob Ramsey (ankle) will both miss Saturday's game.

Wissa is "feeling the effects" of a knock he sustained with DR Congo on Tuesday, while Ramsey is set to be out until the next month's international break after that late tackle he struggled to shake off at Leeds two weeks ago.

Howe on Wissa: "Unfortunately he won't make this game. I saw him for the first time yesterday and he's feeling the effects of the injury sustained just before he came off [while on international duty]. We're going to have to see how he is."

Howe on Ramsey: "Jacob is our only other injury concern and he'll miss the game. He's suffered from that tackle against Leeds, his ankle swelled up at half-time and he had to come off. Unfortunately I think he'll be missing until the next international break so that's a big blow."

In better news, £69m German Nick Woltemade has trained well after returning from international duty and will be available for selection this weekend.

Joelinton is also expected to return after he trained this week, despite missing international duty with Brazil an our 0-0 draw at Leeds last time out.

Howe on Joelinton: “Joe has trained. He’s been fit and available, he’s been out on the training pitch and is looking good. Really happy to welcome him back, such an important player.”

Despite this boost, it is a huge blow to see Ramsey ruled out for a busy run of fixtures this month in league, cup and Europe, and we’ll have to hope Wissa is back soon, with Barcelona and Bournemouth both to come next week.
