Livramento update and boost for Union SG clash - Eddie Howe speaks from Belgium

Newcastle United have arrived in Belgium ahead of tomorrow night's clash with Union SG in the UEFA Champions League.

Ahead of the game in Brussels, Eddie Howe has been speaking to the media, discussing Tino Livramento's knee injury that saw him stretchered off in Sunday's 2-1 defeat to Arsenal.

Howe reveals that Newcastle are "still awaiting feedback" on the extent of the injury and was hesitant to give too much of an update, with more news set to arrive in the coming days.

It's believed Newcastle are seeking a second opinion on his knee, which remains swollen, although the early suggestions have been that it is NOT another ACL injury for the 22-year-old.

Discussing Livramento's condition in this afternoon's Champions League press conference, Howe said:

"We're still awaiting feedback on the extent of his injury.

"I think I'm better off waiting before giving any indication on that, because I think that could be a mistake.

"So, yeah, let's wait and see in the next couple of days."

On our flight over and early preparations ahead of tomorrow's 5.45pm kick-off, Howe also confirmed that Fabian Schar will b back in the squad after serving concussion protocols over the last 12 days:

"Journey was good, quick flight for us, we will train this afternoon.

"The squad is in a good place, minus Tino [Livramento], still awaiting feedback on the extent of his injury but other than that we are okay.

"Fabian [Schär] is back in the squad."

Howe also touched on Sunday's crushing defeat to Arsenal, preferring to use the nature of that late collapse as a motivator to bounce back, not a "hangover" that will haunt us heading into a big week:

“The Arsenal defeat should be a motivator, not a hangover. We needed to do better in those last few moments.

"It would have been a big point. We need to use that as a motivation”

With a defeat in our opening Champions League game - a 2-1 loss to Barcelona - and just one win in six leagues games so far, this is a big week for Newcastle and an opportunity to bounce back in Belgium.

Fingers crossed on Tino and for tomorrow night's game against an in-form Union SG!
