Guéla Doué emerges as 'hot target' for Newcastle United - Report

Kieran Trippier and Emil Krafth will leave Newcastle United when their contracts expire next month.

With the two veteran full-backs leaving the club, that just leaves Tino Livramento as a recognised right-back in the squad, and he's still being linked with a possible summer exit, although it is feeling less likely that he will actually leave.

Livramento's injury issues make him a less desirable target than he perhaps was, but it also means that Newcastle absolutely needs to recruit for that position over the summer.

The Magpies have been linked with a few full-backs already, but a report from French outlet Jeunes Footeux claims they are now tracking Guéla Doué of RC Strasbourg.

Newcastle keen on Ivory Coast international Guéla Doué

The 23-year-old Ivory Coast international is claimed to be a 'hot target' for Newcastle as he ticks several boxes that the Magpies are looking for.

He's young, good in defence and attack, can cover at centre-back as well as right-back, and has plenty of experience playing at a high level.

Doué also won't break the bank, as Strasbourg are reportedly only asking €30 million (£26 million), and the fact that they need to balance the books means they will be willing sellers, so there is a deal to be done.

Too soon to get excited

It's believed that Doué would be keen on a move to the Premier League, which is encouraging for Newcastle, but whether the Magpies are ready to make a move or not is unknown.

The name has come out of nowhere, so we're not sure how extensively he's been scouted, and therefore, we're not sure how much faith to put in the report.

We certainly need a right-back, and a lot of things line up for this one, so we'll be keeping an eye on any developments.

Rumour Rating: 6/10 - It's a position Newcastle needs. Guéla Doué certainly ticks plenty of boxes. We're just not sure about the source so we aren't ready to get too excited yet.
