Hoffenheim’s classy Bazoumana Toure statement as record sale is confirmed
Newcastle United have completed the signing of 20-year-old winger Bazoumana Toure from German side Hoffenheim.
The Ivory Coast international exited the World Cup last week and headed straight to Newcastle to finalise his move from the Bundesliga to the Premier League.
Toure becomes Newcastle's second signing of the summer, following the £18m arrival of Ewen Jaouen.
Eddie Howe spoke about Toure having a 'high ceiling', which perfectly fits with the new transfer strategy at Newcastle. Buying younger players with plenty of skill but still with a lot to learn and developing them into stars.
As Newcastle announced Toure's arrival, Hoffenheim also announced his departure by confirming that the move has broken their transfer sale record.
Bazouman Toure follows in the footsteps of Joelinton
Bazoumana Toure's move was believed to have brought in a £43 million fee for the Bundesliga side, although they don't actually confirm the figure.
Instead, they note how it's a new highest fee received, beating their previous record, which was Joelinton, who also joined Newcastle for £40 million.
‘Bazoumana Touré is leaving Bundesliga side TSG Hoffenheim to join Newcastle United in the English Premier League. In a deal worth a record transfer fee for Hoffenheim, the pacey winger will be playing in the north of England from now on.
‘He has taken the Bundesliga by storm in the truest sense of the word: Bazoumana Touré has made his mark at Hoffenheim in just one and a half years, and now the highly talented winger is set to join Newcastle United. The Premier League club is paying a record transfer fee in TSG’s history for the 20-year-old’s services."His performances were instrumental in the club’s second-best season in its history,” says Andreas Schicker, sporting director at TSG. “Of course, we would have loved to keep Bazou in our ranks. However, it is in keeping with TSG’s DNA and the path we have chosen to sign highly promising talents, develop them systematically alongside our coaching team, and enable them to make the move to elite clubs. We wish Bazou all the very best and every success for his future career and the challenge ahead in the Premier League.”
"Touré replaces the Brazilian Joelinton as Hoffenheim’s record signing; Joelinton also moved from TSG to Newcastle United in the summer of 2019."
Johan Manzambi next?
Hoffenheim must love it when Newcastle's number comes up on their caller ID.
Bazouman Toure arrives as the natural replacement for Anthony Gordon, while Newcastle will now be moving on to finding a central midfielder to replace Sandro Tonali.
Johan Manzambi remains the priority for that role, it seems, but as for whether Newcastle can get a deal over the line for the Swiss star remains to be seen.
