Mystery midfielder next for Newcastle with Dedic set to sign - Fabrizio Romano

As the deal for a new right back slowly draws to a close, it looks like the next target is also very close, at least according to Fabrizio Romano.

Saturday morning brought with it fresh word from the Italian that Amar Dedić is reaching the final stages of completing his move to Newcastle. But that the next deal might also be very close.

Dedić close and mystery midfielder to follow? 

So, now it’s time for that mystery midfielder. While no name was attached to the post on X, it looks like news might be about to follow.

The two most recent links came in the form of Pierre Emile Højbjerg, who had allegedly rejected a move and has since lost the captain's armband at the club.

The alternative was Joao Palhinha, whose move to Aston Villa collapsed, which opened a door to Newcastle. Though Benfica are also interested.

There are other names, of course; Carlos Baleba was linked recently, and there’s the ongoing rumour that Lucas Bergvall could join.

It’s worth noting that Bergvall would be free to join the club next week after the UEFA “player trading” window had passed. Though talk from Spurs is they’d happily keep the Swedish midfielder, Newcastle could be waiting for the fee to drop under the £50m rumoured.

Regardless of who it is, we need someone; honestly, we need two in midfield. Newcastle need leadership from somewhere and someone creative.

We have money to spend, but we lack time. Once this mystery midfield target is signed, the club then needs to move Joe Willock on, freeing up more wages and a small fee.

There are less than three weeks left of the window, and the squad is in desperate need of more quality. Ideally, we need to only sign first-team players for a bit, and then maybe at the end of the window add some more exciting talent.
