Howe reveals 4 players out of Spurs game, 1 major doubt and Yoane Wissa plans
Newcastle United secured back-to-back wins in the Premier League over the weekend, with a 4-1 win at Everton a huge result heading into two home games against Spurs and Burnley this week.
This morning, Eddie Howe has been back on media duties, sitting down with the local press to answer questions ahead of tomorrow night's match at St James' Park.
It looks like Sven Botman (back), Yoane Wissa (fitness), Will Osula (ankle) and Kieran Trippier (hamstring) will all miss the game, with Nick Pope (groin) a major doubt ahead of assessment today.
Botman will see a specialist in the coming days to determine whether he can play with injections in the coming weeks or requires a period of rest, and it's emerged that Wissa returned to action in a behind-closed-doors game on Saturday.
Howe has confirmed that the DR Congo striker will take part in another 11 vs 11 game at the training ground this week to build his fitness, with the club set to then assess where he's at ahead of a potential return to action next week.
Discussing all of the above and Osula's complicated return from an ankle issue as he continues to feel discomfort, Howe said:
"With Sven (Botman) he's going to see a specialist in the next couple of days to get a definitive opinion on whether he needs an injection or whether he's able to rest for a few days and resume training."
"Yoane (Wissa) participated in an 11v11 training game while we were at Everton. He'll have another one at some stage this week and we'll see how close he is. He's working back and doing well. Everything is positive. He'll be back when he's able to contribute and has minimal chance of re-injury. "
"Nick (Pope) is one of a number of players we'll analyse early this week and try to get a proper diagnosis. No further update from Saturday."
"Will (Osula) certainly won't be involved tomorrow. We need to have more discussions to see what's happening with his ankle, as he's not happy with how he's feeling."
Trippier is expected to miss the next few weeks with a hamstring injury, and it's not yet known when Emil Krafth will be back after a knee issue has kept him out of our last three games since the international break.
