Anthony Gordon wants to leave Newcastle before World Cup - Report
This summer, it's expected that Newcastle United will sanction the sale of one or two 'big' players in order to facilitate a squad rebuild after a mediocre season.
In an ideal world, the club would just be able to ask their super rich owners for some money to go and play in the transfer market, but PSR/SCR have made that impossible, so the only way to add is to subtract.
We've got a few players that the media seem very keen to push out of the door at St James' Park with relentless campaigns - it's all so familiar after the Alexander Isak situation last year.
Sandro Tonali and Tino Livramento feel like they're on the way out, and now speculation around Anthony Gordon is ramping up after the winger was linked with Bayern Munich.
Anthony Gordon wants to leave Newcastle
Adding to the speculation today is The Telegraph, which claims that Gordon is open to leaving Newcastle in the summer and wants his future sorted before the World Cup.
Luke Edwards' report does say that this hasn’t explicitly come from Gordon himself, but the feeling around the club is that the England man feels he's outgrown Newcastle and is looking for a new challenge and regular Champions League football.
Newcastle want any exits handled early in the summer to avoid a similar story to last year, so if Gordon is itching for a move, he needs to tell the powers that be sooner rather than later.
The reports linking Gordon to Bayern Munich had his price at around £55 million, which has been laughed off on Tyneside, and it's expected that it would take something in the region of £80 million for Newcastle to part with the former Everton man.
There's a good case for both outcomes
We're not sure what to think about this one. It almost feels inevitable, but at the same time, the fact that the story clearly states that Gordon himself hasn't agitated to leave suggests that it's just the club insiders getting swept up in the negative vibes surrounding the club right now.
Anthony Gordon leaving would be a blow to the project, but at the same time, he's had so many games this season where fans have accused him of not caring anyway, so is it worth missing out on those six or seven games when he looks world-class to get a mardy player off the books who only turns up for the big occasion?
Moving him on before the World Cup could be a mistake too, if he goes on to have a stormer in North America, and we could have added a few more numbers to his fee. Although by the same token, he could go over there and stink the place out and knock millions off his value.
Here we go again, eh?
