Paul Merson makes Fulham vs Newcastle prediction
Newcastle United sign off their season with an away trip to Craven Cottage to take on Fulham. Kick-off is at 4pm on Sunday, live on Sky Sports.
League position is all Newcastle has to play for now, that few extra quid that comes with each league place is all we really have after missing out on Europe.
Fulham are in the same boat as they are on the same points total as Newcastle, but have an inferior goal difference.
It's about as big a non-event game as there can be on the final day, but Sky Sports is showing every game live, so we still get that sweet TV money for the day.
Paul Merson can't separate the sides
In his prediction for Sportskeeda, Paul Merson is expecting both teams to come out and play their own game, but he sees them cancelling each other out over the 90 minutes.
"Newcastle will want to finish above Sunderland and as things stand, they are two points behind their rivals. Last weekend, Newcastle put West Ham to the sword. But I'm not sure they can pull off a repeat of the same here.
"I expect goals in this game. Both teams are in a situation where they can afford to go out and play their football. Newcastle have every reason to play that way since they need to finish above Sunderland and Fulham are no pushovers at home. So it would be disappointing if this game ended 0-0!
"Harry Wilson is out of contract this summer. I'd be shocked if he hasn't signed for someone already! His form has fizzled out in recent weeks, but I bet his next move may have been finalised in January when he was flying. It is probably being kept under wraps.
"I think a club like Aston Villa could use someone like Wilson. He's a good player and available on a free transfer. I would be shocked if they didn't go for him. Everton could also be a good fit, especially if Jack Grealish does not sign permanently.
"Prediction: Fulham 2-2 Newcastle United
How did we get here?
We're not going to lie, finishing above Sunderland would actually feel like an achievement after this season, but it really should have been a given.
We're not sure we deserve to finish above them, though, and we should wear that pain all summer and use it as fuel next season. We can not let this happen again.
The Mackems host Chelsea at home, so they have a tough game, but it doesn't matter what they do if we don't beat Fulham, so while it's hardly a blockbuster end to the season, that's our thing to play for.
