Erdinç a no-go.
Toon target Mevlut Erdinç has seemingly poured cold water on a potential move to St James' Park by insisting that he wants to stay at Paris Saint Germain and fight for his place.
The news comes on a day where rumours suggest that Newcastle have upped their bid to somewhere in the region of €7 million as they attempt to try and secure the services of the 24-year-old Turkish international striker. However, now the player has distanced himself with leaving the Parisian outfit it leaves Alan Pardew in limbo with regard to beefing up the striking options ahead of the new season.
"I stay in Paris," Erding told L'Equipe. "I want to impose myself here and I do not fear competition. I'm ready. Anyway, there is always competition, at all clubs."
Ironically the man that Erding will be 'fighting' with is another Toon target in the shape of Kevin Gameiro who also turned down the chance to move to St James' Park earlier on in the summer despite his club at the time, Lorient, allegedly preferring for the player to move to us given that we can pay cash up front for our transfer dealings.
Unfortunately though, if a player doesn't want to come then there isn't a lot that can be done. In contrast to what some seem to believe, players hold all the cards and can deal them both when leaving a club or when picking a new one.
This rumoured move has been dragging on for some time now. Is this another chapter in the on/off saga? Or does this draw a line under the whole thing?
Is it time to move on? It looks that way.
