Jamie Reuben releases statement as Newcastle end sorry 2025/26 in defeat
It's over! We made it. The 2025/16 Premier League season is no more, and now Newcastle United can get to work on making sure we never have a season like this again.
After that performance against Fulham on Sunday, we're not sure how many of the current squad we'd even keep, but a total clearout is unrealistic, so we'll have to retain a good few.
Those who are retained need to put in the work during pre-season, as does Eddie Howe and his coaching team, while Ross Wilson and his recruitment staff have to ensure that everyone who comes in during the summer is a good fit and ready to go straight into the side and perform.
Every single department needs to improve ahead of next season, and that is exactly what co-owner Jamie Reuben said at full-time on Sunday.
Jamie Reuben promises the work will be done this summer
Jamie Reuben took to X after the pathetic defeat to Fulham on Sunday to thank the fans for their support and to issue a promise that everyone at the club will be working hard to improve.
"Thank you to the travelling support today, clearly a very disappointing result at the end of an underwhelming season, despite some great moments in the champions league and other domestic cups we have not lived up to where we should and need to be.
"All of us from ownership down to the coaching staff and players will work tirelessly over the summer to advance our project ,come back stronger and start the new season in the best way possible To all our supporters, staff everyone associated with @NUFC thank you for your support."
The hard work starts right now!
Looking at the state of his grammar, Reuben may have been a few bottles of Bollinger into the evening when he typed his post, so let's hope he remembers what he said in the morning and puts it into action.
It's hard not to think that the club has gone backwards over the last 12 months, and the final league position just emphasised the point.
We're still backing Eddie Howe, purely because we feel he was let down in the summer, but he has a lot of work to do to get fans back onside next season. Again, he needs that support and that backing from above. That being said, he can't keep hiding behind that excuse - he has to put the work in too.
A new coach, some fresh ideas and maybe a change of system if he dares be so bold could all help to bring the spark back to the side along with the squad refresh.
