Alan Shearer calls for Eddie Howe to STAY at Newcastle United
The curtain fell on the most forgettable season of the new era on Sunday with Newcastle United falling to a 2-0 defeat to Fulham.
It seemed a very fitting end to the season that Newcastle went out with a whimper after what was a difficult campaign with very few high points.
Eddie Howe has found himself under pressure for much of the season due to the indifferent form, and it was no different on Sunday. His players were booed off the Craven Cottage pitch at half-time after a listless display that only marginally improved after the break.
With tensions running high after the Fulham game, the debate raged online over whether Eddie Howe should be in charge next season. The club has already made that decision, and they don't look likely to change their mind.
Alan Shearer wants to see more of Eddie Howe
Alan Shearer has even weighed in with his own take, telling Betfair (via The Chronicle) that he believes Howe and his team deserve another shot despite the difficulties of this season.
"He deserves the chance to go again and work with whoever they decide to bring in [player-wise] and then hopefully have a good start to the season.
"I don't know what's gone on or what's going on in terms of the training ground because I'm not part of that, but we also have to remember that these are the guys that brought Newcastle huge success.
“They brought [a] trophy to the club and I do think that's one of the reasons why they should be able to go again this summer and try and work out what's gone wrong."
Newcastle's squad needs an attitude readjustment
The squad changes are going to be crucial for Eddie Howe and, indeed, the club as a whole. Some players clearly don't want to be here, and they should be hoofed out of St james' Park at the earliest opportunity.
Then whoever we bring in has to want to be here. They have to be ready to put in the work and to buy into what it means to play for the shirt like Bruno Guimaraes has.
This is going to be Eddie Howe's last chance. The excuses that have propped him up during the bad times aren't going to wash anymore so he has to get it right, but he can only do that if the players he has at his disposal have the right attitude.
