How much will Newcastle earn from Adidas? - The Amazon hint + what Arsenal & Man Utd receive
Two weeks tomorrow, Newcastle will officially announce the return of Adidas, with the sportswear giants set to produce our kits from the 2024/25 season onwards.
This news was leaked following the accidental release of episode four of the 'We are Newcastle United' Amazon documentary. The episode has now been taken down and won't air until Friday 1st September, but some telling quotes have already been picked up.
Narrator Alan Shearer said the deal "would be worth hundreds of millions over an initial five year period”, while CCO Peter Silverstone claimed “it has the potential to be the most lucrative partnership the club has ever had“.
'Hundreds of millions' over a five-year suggests a minimum of £40m per-year from Adidas; which is already an enormous improvement on the current £5m we receive each season from Castore.
Interestingly, Arsenal currently earn an estimated £75m per-season from Adidas, while Man Utd recently announced a record-breaking 10-year deal with the kit manufacturer, worth a 'minimum' of £90m each year.
It's also worth noting that Peter Silverstone played a key role in Arsenal's agreement with Adidas back in 2019, so it's likely the former Gunners chief used his contacts to strike this deal for Newcastle four years later.
We may not hit the figures Arsenal or Man Utd are receiving to begin with, but it's a game-changing deal for the club, with co-owner Amanda Staveley describing Adidas as the "perfect fit" that allows us to "really grow the brand and commercial value."
