Club insiders respond to Amanda Staveley rumours as return is mooted
On Sunday, a report came out suggesting that Amanda Staveley was leading a new consortium with £2bn to spend on a Premier League football club.
Newcastle United and West Ham United were named as the likely subjects of a potential takeover bid by Staveley's US-backed consortium.
The claims certainly got tongues wagging in the north east as fans discussed whether they would like to see PIF step aside and Amanda Staveley return to be the face of the club.
There have been a few reports lately trying to suggest the PIF could be looking for a way out of Newcastle and each time it has come up, the claims have been rubbished by sources inside the club.
Club sources rubbished weekend claims
The Chronicle report that the messaging from the club remains the same on a potential change of ownership, playing down talk of a Staveley-backed takeover bid.
Their report says that the PIF are 'all-in' on the project at Newcastle United and they're more concerned with their next trophy than a sale.
As The Chronicle points out, even a £2bn bid is nothing to the PIF, which manages over a trillion dollars worth of assets.
PIF seem to be locked in
We pointed out in our initial coverage of the rumour that the PIF have already signed off on the state-of-the-art training ground which is due to be announced later this year, and the stadium project remains ongoing, both of which will come at no insignificant expense to the PIF.
Although the majority owners will not be fully funding either project, instead putting a significant amount of the money through the club itself, it will still incur some of the costs.
It's unlikely that we've seen the last of the takeover rumours as they seem to be getting more frequent, but it looks as though the PIF are here to stay for a while at least.
