Amanda Staveley eyeing £2bn return to Newcastle United - Journalist
Newcastle United recently assured fans that the PIF remains committed to the club after it pulled its funding for the LIV Golf project and scaled back its sports portfolio.
After announcing a new investment strategy, rumours started to gather pace that the Saudi Arabia Public Investment Fund could look to offload Newcastle United in the near future.
This was despite recent confirmation from CEO David Hopkinson that the PIF remains committed to teh club, and Craig Hope also wrote a detailed piece outlining why it wouldn't make sense for the PIF to pull out now with the huge investment in the training ground and stadium on the horizon.
However, The Sun's Alan Nixon has claimed via his Patreon (h/t GiveMeSport) that Amanda Staveley is keen to launch a bid to return to the Newcastle helm.
Amanda Staveley to return with a new consortium?
After the rumours around a potential bid for Tottenham Hotspur went nowhere, Nixon now believes Amanda Staveley could be planning a return to football by forming another consortium with eyes on either Newcastle United or West Ham United.
It's reported that a bid for Newcastle may have to be as much as £2bn to get the PIF to part with their majority share, which is quite the profit from their initial £305 million investment.
We recently wrote that the club is valued at around £1bn, but obviously, if the PIF were to sell, they'd want to maximise their money, so they'd want more than the club was worth, especially given that they've pumped in around £800 million on top of their initial outlay and have funds allocated for infrastructure upgrades.
Interestingly, it's thought that a buy-out of West Ham would be more expensive than Newcastle purely because of geography, even though West Ham doesn't even own its own stadium. Of course, should the Hammers be relegated, that could affect their asking price massively.
We don't see this happening
As much as we'd love to have Amanda Staveley back at the club, for the communication with fans alone, we just don't see there being any truth to this one.
Staveley had to reduce her share in Newcastle the first time to bail herself out of financial issues, which ultimately saw her forced out of the club. It made it far too easy for Darren Eales to convince the PIF to give her the old heave-ho.
If Staveley were to raise the funds required, we're not sure the PIF would be keen to sell to her anyway. They're still reported to be heavily invested in the club, and an announcement on the new training ground is expected very soon.
We just want stability now. We have a CEO, a sporting director and a manager who all seem capable of working together. Let's see how this pans out before we start looking for change again.
