West Ham respond to Amanda Staveley takeover claims amid Newcastle links
On Sunday, it was reported that former Newcastle United co-owner, Amanda Staveley, had put together a US-based consortium with a view to taking over a Premier League club.
The report came from The Sun's Alan Nixon, who took to his personal Patreon to claim that Amanda Staveley was looking at a potential £2bn takeover of a Premier League club with Newcastle and West Ham in her sights.
Amanda Staveley fell in love with Newcastle after she led the PIF to the 2021 takeover, and although she was ultimately forced out, it's clear that she and her husband, Mehrdad Ghodoussi, absolutely love the club and the fans.
It would make sense, then, that if she had the means, she would at least test the waters over a potential takeover. Meanwhile, West Ham is a club in flux right now with lots of manoeuvring going on at the board level there after Karren Brady stepped down recently.
West Ham have responded to the Amanda Staveley rumours
Club sources at Newcastle quickly shot down the idea that the PIF would be willing sellers even if Staveley could offer the £2bn mentioned, despite only paying £305 million for the club less than five years ago.
Now, in what will be another blow to Amanda Staveley, West Ham sources have told Hammers News that David Sullivan would rebuff any attempts to buy West Ham.
“No, Sullivan would not entertain selling (to Staveley). Mr Sullivan is buying more shares, not selling.”
Would you like to see Wor Mandy back at the club?
What happens next is anyone's guess, but after her failed attempts to buy into Tottenham Hotspur last year and this latest rumour, it looks like we've not seen the last of Amanda Staveley in the Premier League.
We're torn as to whether we'd like to see Staveley use her funds to buy back into Newcastle now that Darren Eales has gone. It seemed like he was the catalyst behind her departure as he felt she was encroaching on his role at the club.
While we understand the need to move forward and not backwards, and there's always the risk that she could start interfering with David Hopkinson's business if she were back at the club, we do miss having an owner who actually speaks to the fans and someone who was transparent.
We miss that communication and having a public face of the club who would actually keep us apprised of the goings on. Everything just feels far too secret squirrel these days.
