Ross Wilson in talks with agent over Newcastle United recall
Newcastle's injury crisis has gone from bad to worse over the past week.
If an ankle ligament injury to Fabian Schar wasn't enough in that 4-3 win over Leeds, we then saw Tino Livramento forced off with a hamstring injury in Saturday's FA Cup clash with Bournemouth.
With Dan Burn also out until February, this leaves us with Lewis Hall as our only fit left-back option, leaving Newcastle to consider all options as we enter a hectic few months across four competitions.
This brings us to a potential January recall, with Eddie Howe revealing that sporting director Ross Wilson has been in talks with Matt Targett's agent over an early return to Tyneside.
The 30-year-old joined Middlesbrough on loan last summer and has played regularly as they push for automatic promotion back to the Premier League, so there is every chance he prefers to start on Teesside, rather than play back up to Hall.
Asked if Targett could be recalled and any cut-off point regarding his potential return, Howe said:
"I believe there's a cut-off point, but I think Ross [Wilson, sporting director] has been in regular dialogue with Matt's agent."We'll make a decision on that (potentially recalling him) very soon."
Interestingly, The Mail's Craig Hope has stated on his latest Youtube video that deadline for any recall is next Friday, meaning Newcastle have just over a week to assess our injury issues and pursue any alternatives before a final decision will be needed.
Targett is out of contract at the end of the season and has played 24 times for Boro, managing two goals and two assists in the Championship.
