Lewis Hall nonsense backfires as Newcastle make Man Utd reporter look silly
There have been a lot of rumours around Lewis Hall wanting to leave Newcastle United of late, particularly since he missed out on a spot in Thomas Tuchel's World Cup squad.
If you pick up on news coming from the wrong side of the Pennines, then you'd be forgiven for thinking that Lewis Hall and Eddie Howe have had a falling out after Hall wasn't selected for the England World Cup squad.
The Sun's Man United mouthpiece, Samuel Luckhurst, has added to this nonsense, claiming last night that Hall blames Howe for his England fate and is now pushing for an exit this summer.
Thankfully, this was quickly shot down by the North East press pack, who quickly turned to Newcastle United for a response.
Lee Ryder and Luke Edwards set record straight
Both Lee Ryder of The Chronicle and The Telegraph's Luke Edwards have spoken to Newcastle insiders, and both have been given the same information that flies in the face of Luckhurst's lies.
Both reporters say that there is no falling out between Hall and Howe - Ryder was told their relationship remains "very good" - and addressing the reports of Hall blaming Howe for missing out on the World Cup, it's actually quite the contrary.
Instead, as Edwards explains, Hall is 'extremely grateful' to Howe for helping him to become an England international in the first place. He also reveals that Howe and Hall share the same agent, therefore Newcastle would've been first to know had the left-back asked to leave.
Edwards has even pointed out on X that The Sun has drastically changed Luckhurst's report about the rift, showing up what a poor piece of journalist it was.
Eddie Howe was key in Lewis Hall's development
Lewis Hall is a Newcastle United fan, so it would take something significant to get him to push for a move away in the first place.
Also, as Edwards pointed out, Eddie Howe has been instrumental in Hall's rise in the game, and he's hardly going to turn on him because Thomas Tuchel made the mistake of not selecting him for the World Cup.
Everyone backed him for the position, even Gary Lineker this week, which shows how good he's been. Tuchel has his own ideas, however, and Hall's slight dip in game time in the final few games of 2025/26 won't have been the deciding factor.
Manchester United fans had taken to this story with a sensational air of arrogance, but hopefully they'll now back down from their outrageous claims and realise that Hall is a Newcastle United player and that's how it's going to stay unless an outrageous offer comes in.
We're sure that Newcastle will fight off any bids, but as we know, no player is 100% safe if the price is right, so we have to keep that awareness that anything could happen.
