Newcastle agree £190m deal for "world class" training base at Woolsington Hall

After years of wondering and waiting, Newcastle United have taken their biggest step yet towards a brand-new, state-of-the-art training base.

Breaking news on Thursday afternoon confirms that Newcastle have purchased the Woolsington Hall estate as the site for a new £190m world-class training complex.

The club have acquired 260 acres of land from former chairman Sir John Hall, who bought the estate in 1994. The site, situated to the south of Newcastle International Airport, also includes a derelict listed country house and parkland.

Subject to planning permission being granted, Newcastle hope to move into the new training base ahead of the 2029/30 season, with the club's Academy also set to be part of the new facility.

The major breakthrough promises Newcastle a "world-class" training facility, highlighting PIF and the Reuben's commitment to investing in the club's infrastructure.

Formal planning application is expected to be submitted in early 2027, with Newcastle building towards plans to move into the site in 2029.

Finally, some serious progress

As shared on NUFC.co.uk, the club has shared the following statement on the £190m purchase:

"Newcastle United have completed an agreement to purchase the Woolsington Hall estate as the site for a new world-class training complex.

The agreement follows a meticulous process to identify and secure a viable site, which is situated within the Newcastle city boundary and provides outstanding links to Newcastle International Airport and existing public transport network.

The club will acquire 260 acres of land to the south of the airport, which includes a derelict listed country house and parkland.

Subject to planning permission, the site will be carefully restored alongside the introduction of new elite performance facilities for the men's first team and Academy in a scheme totalling £190m.

A formal planning application is expected to be submitted in early 2027 with a view to the men's first team moving in for the 2029/30 season.

The master plan for Woolsington Hall will also retain the flexibility to integrate bespoke women's and girls' facilities.

This phased approach ensures investment is both immediate and sustainable.

The club is committed to delivering the project sustainably and responsibly, and will work closely with the local community and local authorities as plans develop."

Great news, a much-needed boost regarding our infrastructure and a sign of PIF's commitment moving forward.

Finally, some serious progress to elevate us to a new level, for staff, players and potential new signings in years to come.
