Newcastle once again linked with Bazoumana Touré despite Victor Munoz progress

Newcastle United appears to be closing in on the signing of Spain winger Victor Munoz.

The 22-year-old is thought to be happy with the idea of the move to Tyneside, and reports coming out on Saturday have suggested that Newcastle and Osasuna have agreed on a fee and structure to make the deal happen.

Things appear to be progressing nicely, and we believe we could see Munoz seal his switch next week, which will make him Newcastle's second signing of the summer already following the arrival of Ewen Jaouen.

Victor Munoz is predominantly a left winger but can also play on the right, which is handy given the options we have on that flank in particular.

Newcastle aren't done scouting for wingers

We do expect Munoz to be deployed as a left-sided forward, though. After all, he is the replacement for Anthony Gordon.

So that makes the latest claims from German outlet Bild just a little bit suspicious. According to them, Newcastle, Brentford and Manchester United are all 'intensely' following Bazoumana Traoré of Hoffenheim.

Elsewhere, it's being reported that Liverpool actually leads the race for Touré, so Newcastle will have their work cut out for them should they be genuinely interested.

The Ivorian winger racked up five goals and 12 assists in 30 Bundesliga games last season, and that's caught the interest of several clubs. Noted for his incredible pace, the 20-year-old definitely ticks all the right boxes for Newcastle, but with Munoz on his way, where does he fit?

Bazoumana Traoré would be a good signing but not the one we need

Traoré was one of the wingers Newcastle was linked with before the Munoz deal gathered pace, so there is a chance that Bild is just going off that older information, or perhaps Newcastle are looking at the younger option as further backup.

Harvey Barnes is being linked with a move to Aston Villa, so if Newcastle are preparing for his sale, then bringing in another left-sided forward would make sense.

The issue is that Traoré is under contract at Hoffenheim until 2029 with no release clause, and with so many clubs keen, they can pretty much name their price.

We like the idea of a complete refresh in the winger department, but we'd prefer it if Ross Wilson and Eddie Howe shifted focus to the right side because if Anthony Elanga and Jacob Murphy are our options at the start of the season, we're going to have problems.
