Real Madrid to insert buy-back clause in Victor Munoz deal - Report
Newcastle United are set to buy Spain international winger Victor Munoz from Osasuna for around £30 million.
The deal is moving forward, and although there's nothing official circulating as yet, there have been plenty of reports suggesting that there should be no hiccups in getting it over the line.
Munoz is apparently keen to get the deal completed so he can focus on the World Cup, whereas Newcastle will want everything sewn up so that they can move on to other targets.
One thing that may have held up the move from Osasuna is the fact that Real Madrid have a buy-back clause in his deal.
Real Madrid get buy-back clause in Munoz's Newcastle move
Similar to how Newcastle were beaten to the signing of James Trafford last year, Real could have activated their option to buy Munoz back, and that would have given them first refusal.
It has been reported that the Spanish side isn't interested in activating that clause and are happy to bag the £15m or so they'll get from owning 50% of Munoz's rights.
Although now, Spanish outlet AS is claiming that Real Madrid has managed to negotiate a buy-back clause, active for one year, in the deal with Newcastle.
Real Madrid keeps some control over Victor Munoz
So now, if Victor Munoz has a good season in the Premier League, Newcastle could be at huge risk of losing him after just one year because of the clause.
It seems like once again, Newcastle gets the poopy end of the stick here. Yes, we're getting a player with bags of potential, but if he hits the ground running, then Madrid can just swoop in next summer and take him home.
Of course, Munoz doesn't have to accept the move, so if he has a good season and loves playing in England, he could reject the proposal, but still, we're not a big fan of this at all.
