“You’ll see” - Kieran Trippier sends Yoane Wissa message to Newcastle fans
After fighting so hard to get his move to Newcastle United in the summer, Yoane Wissa's dream quickly turned into a nightmare.
The DR Congo forward went on strike at Brentford to force through his move, which finally went through with around 30 seconds to spare on deadline day.
Just a few days later, though, Yoane Wissa would pick up an injury that would derail his whole season. The injury kept him out of action for four months and when he did return to training, the players were only going through minimal midweek sessions due to their involvement in the Champions League and domestic cups.
With no time to train with his new teammates, Wissa has struggled to fit in and find his place in the team, and when he has been used, he's missed some glaring opportunities that a fully fit and confident Wissa would have buried.
Kieran Trippier backs Yoane Wissa to come good
Eddie Howe has insisted that Wissa is showing a lot of potential in training, it's just not translating on the pitch, and now Kieran Trippier has backed up those claims when talking with reporters (via The Shields Gazette).
"Wiss came in with an injury. When you play for this manager, when you play for this team, the intensity is so high. Look at Anthony Gordon when he first came in.
"He got injured straight away because it's intense. With Wissa, it's the same. You don't go scoring 20 goals last season and then coming in here and getting a lot of criticism from the outside.
"He's been injured. I think he needs another pre-season. Once he does, you'll see a total difference next season. That's for sure. He'll bang in goals. He's another one who goes under the radar.
“He'll score goals. You just need to get up to scratch with how the manager wants him to play. It's demanding. You see it. Next season, he'll be a huge threat for the football team."
Will Wissa get the chance to shine?
Whether Wissa will be given the opportunity to bang the goals in for Newcastle is the real question. After forking out £124 million on two strikers in the summer and neither really hitting the ground running, there has been a lot of speculation that one could depart.
Eddie Howe has hinted that he wants to keep his strikeforce, though, and expects that next season will be a different story.
With a full pre-season schedule behind them, we expect to see massive improvement in Yoane Wissa and Nick Woltemade, and we expect Will Osula will continue to kick on too.
