Toon target one of Serie A's top scorers in a bargain deal - Report
According to Italian outlet Corriere di Verona, Newcastle are keeping an eye on Argentinian forward Giovanni Simeone, son of Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone, as a cheaper alternative to the 'big names'.
Over the past few months, Newcastle have been linked to some well known names around Europe - Benfica's Darwin Nunez, Lille's Sven Botman, Napoli's Victor Osimhen to name a few.
However, Eddie Howe could be keen on looking at more affordable players such as the Cagliari striker who has spent this season on loan at Hellas Verona, tallying 16 goals - fourth highest in the league - and six assists in 35 Serie A appearances.
With the likes of Osimhen - who has scored two less goals than Simeone - costing upwards of £90million, the bargain price for the 26-year-old would certainly help us stay within the regulations of Financial Fair Play.
Due to a clause in his contract that will offer Verona the chance to sign the forward for just £9million, they could try and make a quick profit by selling him on for around £18million.
After West Ham had shown interest in the potent goal scorer in January, the Italian newspaper say that "now, there is Newcastle" with a host of other clubs also intrigued by the deal.
