Bruno Guimaraes responds to Real Madrid links and makes exciting Newcastle United admission

by Olly Hawkins · 11 October 2022, 07:27

Bruno Guimaraes insists that there's "nothing" in recent reports linking him with a move to Real Madrid, despite them being "the best team in the world."

The La Liga giants are believed to be long-term admirers of the 24-year-old talent, with The Chronicle revealing that they - along with PSG and Juventus - have been 'left frustrated' after Newcastle beat them to a January deal.

However, Bruno insists that he has "never doubted the project" on offer at Newcastle United, admitting he "wants to be a legend" on Tyneside following his latest man of the match display at St James' Park, which saw him score twice in our 5-1 battering of Brentford.

When asked about the ambition on Tyneside and those persistent Real Madrid links, here's what he said after Saturday's win:

"Real Madrid is the best team in the world. It is nice. But it is just a conversation, it is nothing.

"I never doubted the project (at Newcastle), I believe in it.

"I always wanted to play in the Premier League and I am now just enjoying that.

"The ground love me and I love them. I want to keep going.

"I want to be a legend here.

Bruno then urged his side to "keep going", insisting this is "just the beginning" - stressing that it's where we finish at the end of the season that really matters:

"We just have a team to keep going. All the games in the Premier League are so difficult but we need to enjoy the moment.

"It's still the beginning and what is important is to be in this position at the end of the season. It's step by step and game by game.

"The last game against Fulham was very important for the confidence of the boys. And vs Brentford we showed what we do in training each day, I am happy for the gaffer.

"He puts the strategy forward and that's very smart on his part."

A star on and off the pitch, I sincerely hope Bruno can achieve all of his dreams at Newcastle United and stay for many, many years.
