Mass exodus on the cards at Newcastle? - 11 Mags highly likely to be moved on this summer

It promises to be a summer of change at St James' Park. Phase two of this exciting new project will feature big signings, lucrative sponsorship deals and plans to expand St James' Park, but a ruthless part of this next phase will be moving on long-serving players who no longer have a future at the club.

Here, we take a closer look at squad members who looks set to depart ahead of the 2023/24 season:

Matt Ritchie - Out of contract at the end of the season and will almost certainly leave on a free transfer. The 33-year-old has been a great servant who was influential in getting us promoted, keeping us up and keeping standards high off the pitch.

Paul Dummett - Like Ritchie, he's approaching the final few months of his contract. Has played just once all season and rarely makes our matchday squads these days.

Ryan Fraser - Wanted out in January and is now training with our Under-21s, meaning it would make sense for all parties if he found a new home this summer. Hopefully we can get a half-decent fee.

Jeff Hendrick - Currently on loan at Reading but still on our books. Ideally we'll find a buyer, but if his heft wages make life difficult we can expect another loan move for the former Burnley man.

Isaac Hayden - A top pro who has always given his all for the club. Currently on loan at Norwich but struggling with a knee injury and is almost 28. Needs a new home for the sake of his career, as he'll be way down the midfielder pecking order when he returns.

Jamal Lewis - Not only is he behind Burn and Targett in the current pecking order, recent reports suggest we've prioritised a move for an attacking left-back this summer. He's barely got a look in under Howe and needs a move for the sake of his once promising career. He'll surely move on, either on loan or permanently.

Karl Darlow - After arriving at Hull for a loan spell, the 32-year-old admitted he needs to be playing regularly at this stage of his career. He's behind Pope and Dubravka in the pecking order and looks likely to find a new home; especially if Karius stays beyond the summer. The same could be said for Dubravka, who seems unlikely to settle for a back-up role.

Jamaal Lascelles - Howe often talks up his leadership skills, yet this summer feels like the natural stopping point between Lascelles and Newcastle. Could be a big miss off the pitch, but it would make sense for all parties if he leaves for game time elsewhere. Former club Nottingham Forest have been heavily linked, with some of the best UK gambling sites believing this is his most likely destination.

Javier Manquillo - With Trippier arguably the first name on the team sheet, Ashby signed in January and Krafth ahead of the Spaniard in the pecking order prior to his ACL injury, I'd expect him to move on. A return to Spain has been mooted.

Mark Gillespie - Our FIFTH choice goalkeeper as things stand and has appeared just once in the last two seasons. A good character, according to Howe, but like Dummett and Ritchie I see no reason why he'd be given an extension.

Matty Longstaff - Has struggled with form and injuries since Eddie Howe came in, also failing to make a major impact during recent loan spells in League Two. Is currently managing a serious knee injury, but will be released when his contract expires in June.
