Newcastle considering Al-Hilal star as club plan January loan moves - The Telegraph
With Sandro Tonali set for a lengthy ban, The Telegraph have named three midfielders on Newcastle's radar ahead of the January transfer window.
Luke Edwards reports that Al-Hilal's Ruben Neves is an option we could pursue, as the Portuguese international may be available on loan. He left Wolves to join the Saudi Pro League side over the summer and a deal could be possible given both clubs are owned by PIF.
He adds that Kalvin Phillips was of 'strong interest' over the summer and is another player who could be pursued. He rejected a move to Newcastle a few months ago to fight for his place under Pep Guardiola, but a loan switch to St James' Park may be offered his way following a lack of game time.
Scott McTominay is also mentioned in the piece as a player we shortlisted over the summer, thought it remains to be seen if Man Utd would strengthen a top four rival.
The Telegraph state that loan moves are likely to be our preference, but money could be made available in light of Tonali's imminent ban that's expected to last at least 12 months.
It's not an ideal scenario for Eddie Howe, who could not have expected to have his new star midfielder banned, but either could offer short-term solutions as we look towards the winter window.
