Newcastle identify three possible replacements for Kieran Trippier - Report
The rumours around Kieran Trippier’s potential departure in 2025 continue to grow and a new report has revealed a few potential replacements on the club's radar.
The Telegraph report that Paul Mitchell is pushing the club's recruitment team to pursue exciting overseas talent over proven Premier League players that come at a premium and, a few days later, three right-backs have been linked that certainly fit this criteria.
Three right-backs on radar?
As reported by The Chronicle, right-back trio Ivan Fresneda, Marc Pubill and Michael Kayode are all on Newcastle's radar and admired by members of the club's recruitment team.
20-year-old Fresneda will be a familiar name to Newcastle fans, with the former Valladolid full back being targeted last year, before the Spaniard eventually made the move to Sporting CP.
Compatriot Pubill is proving to be a solid player in the Almeria defence over in La Liga, whilst Kayode currently plies his craft in the Serie A for Fiorentina.
We reported on Newcastle's interest in Kayode back in July, with the Italian U21 international tracked with Trippier's eventual departure in mind.
A back up right-back seems like a questionable decision on the surface, with Tino Livramento proving this season he is undeniably one of the best in the Premier League, and unlikely to be displaced any time soon.
Meanwhile Emil Krafth (currently injured), Harrison Ashby (impressing on loan at QPR) and Leo Shahar (England youth international impressing in our Academy) are other options the club could turn to in the short or long-term.
Trippier to depart in 2025?
It feels increasingly likely that this is Kieran Trippier's last season at St James' Park.
The experienced full-back has not only lost his first-team spot to Tino Livramento, but also passed the captains armband to Bruno Guimaraes over the summer.
He's out of contract in 18 months time and has been linked with a move over the past few windows, with clubs in England, Italy, Turkey and Saudi Arabia all credited with interest since Bayern Munich failed with January bids earlier this year.
Despite his immense contribution to the club over the past few seasons, his departure would create some 'headroom' from a PSR perspective, as the former England international is one of the highest earners at the club.
