Player 'resisting' Newcastle exit after January offers from Saudi, Germany and Portugal
Another fringe man at Newcastle United has been subject to bids this month, with the club having a number of overseas offers to consider.
So far this month we've seen Miguel Almiron close in on a £10m move to Atlanta United and Juventus are thought to be negotiating a deal for defender Lloyd Kelly.
However, it's now Odysseas Vlachodimos who has a host of offers to consider - although it remains to be seen if he'll take any up despite being third choice on Tyneside behind Nick Pope and Martin Dubravka.
Newcastle offered more permanent and loan-to-buy bids
Odysseas Vlachodimos is 'resisting any exit' according to Mark Douglas of the i, who reports that clubs in Germany, Greece and Portugal have joined Al-Shabab in making offers for the goalkeeper.
This follows on from Fabrizio Romano reporting that the goalkeeper rejected the advances of the Saudi Arabian side as he prefers to stay in Europe.
But, having now turned down a number of offers across Europe - thought to include loan-to-buy and permanent bids - it seems the former Benfica No.1 is intent on staying put.
What a mess this whole transfer has been from a Newcastle standpoint. Nottingham Forest took advantage of our weak PSR position and gleefully offloaded Vlachodimos and gained Elliot Anderson.
It seems the 30-year-old is not complying as we aim to get ahead of the next PSR deadline on June 30, but it may be that clubs on the continent aren't willing to match the salary he receives on Tyneside.
Vlachodimos' struggles set to continue?
Vlachodimos would have been Eddie Howe’s No. 2 behind Nick Pope had Martin Dubravka completed his move to Al-Shabab.
It's believed Dubravka had already begun to pack his bags for Saudi, then Pope suffered a knee injury against Brentford in early December. This allowed the 36-year-old an unexpected return to first team action and his form ever since has left Vlachodimos firmly in third choice.
‘Heco’ is now set to remain at St James' for the remainder of the season and won’t be out of consideration for first team football after inflicting a calming presence on the back line. Vlachodimos will remain on the periphery of the squad and unlikely to start anytime soon, making you wonder why he is so reluctant to leave.
